Gauteng, South Africa—The Reading Riot Competition, a premier event celebrating young reading talent, concluded with a spectacular display of skill and enthusiasm this past Saturday at the University of Pretoria. The competition, which tests comprehension and reading speed, brought together the top Grade 6 learners from across South Africa for an exciting national showdown between all nine provinces in silent reading fluency and comprehension. The top three learners from each province were invited to the prestigious National Finals in Gauteng at the University of Pretoria following rigorous regional competitions. The event showcased an extraordinary level of talent and passion for reading among South Africa’s young scholars.
We are thrilled to announce the winners of this year’s Reading Riot National Finals:
1. National Champion: Stanton Steenkamp (Northern Cape)
Stanton emerged as the National Champion with an exceptional demonstration of both reading speed and comprehension. His outstanding performance earned him a brand-new device, a gift bag with gifts from the University of Pretoria and other sponsors; his teacher and school both received a R10,000 cash prize; the principal won an excursion for two, and, of course, Stanton claimed the title of National Reading Riot Champion
2. First Runner-Up: Ridge Lawson (Eastern Cape)
Ridge was a fierce contestant who secured the first runner-up position with his outstanding reading speed and comprehension skills. He took home a beautiful trophy and a gift bag.
Second Runner-Up: Ayesha Paruk (KwaZulu-Natal)
Ayesha’s impressive reading skills earned her the second runner-up spot and a beautiful trophy with a gift bag to take home.
